The first stage of construction is well underway on Canberra’s new waterfront destination as part of the City to the Lake project.

Work has begun on the initial 150m of board walk at West Basin. It will be 8.1 metres wide and positioned just above the water level.  The generous boardwalk, once completed, will allow for fast and slow moving pedestrians, as well as seating to reflect and admire the view.

Along with the construction of the boardwalk, the first stage of the waterfront also includes:

  • A protected cove providing recreational lake users a place to berth watercraft.
  • A sculptural marker, highlighting the lake water axis between Black Mountain and East Basin of Lake Burley Griffin.

Standard construction hours for the project are 7am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday. Some work may occur on Saturdays, 7am to 1pm.

To minimise disruption to the community during construction, a range of mitigation measures have been taken to control noise, dust and lake water quality.

Additionally, footpath diversions are in place enabling people to continue to walk and cycle around Lake Burley Griffin.
