After successful trading on the shore of West Basin in Lake Burley Griffin since March 2015, the award winning container village will close its doors on Sunday 30 April 2017.
The temporary village was designed to bring the community together through an urban place activation activity for the broader City to the Lake project. Westside was a popular attraction bringing life and vitality to a part of the lake that was previously used for car parking.
The venue hosted ticketed and ‘pop-up’ style events, a rooftop and courtside bar, cafes, and weekly markets.
Planning for future, long-term uses of the waterfront location have continued with construction already in progress of a large 150 metre boardwalk and the new Point Park, adjacent to the current Westside site. The new development will attract the community and visitors alike to continue to spend time at West Basin, and also contribute to better connecting the city with the lake.
Westside can be enjoyed by the public until Sunday 30 April 2017.
