The estate includes children’s playgrounds, walkways and bicycle paths with pedestrian access to Mulangarri Grasslands and North Mitchell Grasslands. Residents have access to approximately 47 hectares of landscaped recreational areas surrounding Gungaderra Creek, where they can exercise, explore and relax. The Gubur Dhaura heritage precinct and Old Well Station Track have been enhanced with walking trails and vantage points to provide greater open space amenity.
Franklin includes two road bridges that cross Gungaderra Creek as well as a series of pedestrian bridges that cross the creek and its inlets. These connect to the wider pedestrian and cycle network through the open space system.
The estate also includes sites for a neighbourhood centre and community related facilities, and features an Early Childhood School.

Franklin was planned with an emphasis on providing a mix of housing types for detached and multi-unit housing. These include apartments in the Flemington Road precinct, terrace and two-storey homes, and traditional homes set on 600m2 blocks. This has provided a wide range of choice for the market. Considerations to sustainable development, high quality public domain and water sensitive urban design (WSUD) have influenced the design.
Located on the doorstop to the Gungahlin Town Centre, Franklin's location offers you a one-stop shop to all of life’s conveniences. With over 100 retail outlets, a choice of cafes and restaurants, supermarkets, medical centres and children’s facilities. The Dickson Shopping Precinct and Canberra City are only minutes away adding to the appeal of Franklin.
The Land Development Agency’s Community Development Program, named ‘Mingle' is an exciting initiative that aims to build vibrant communities through a range of activities such as, new resident programs, family events, community working groups and much more.
