The ACT Government, through the Land Development Agency (LDA) has worked with a multidisciplinary team of designers and planners to prepare a planning strategy for the Canberra Brickworks and Environs.

The Canberra Brickworks and Environs Planning Strategy  provides a framework for future land use, transport and other infrastructure improvements in the area. The planning strategy addresses existing issues such as access, connectivity, transport and public space, appropriate protection and reuse of the existing Brickworks structures and scope for residential development in the precinct. The Planning Strategy identifies how the study area can contribute in the best possible way to Canberra’s future.

The study area is of local, regional and national significance. Encompassing the Canberra Brickworks, the 60-hectare study area forms a major axis with Parliament House, the entryway to Government House, and is adjacent to the Australian Government Mint and residential areas. The study area is also an important gateway to the city from Woden, Tuggeranong, and Molonglo. Due to the significance of the study area, development of the Planning Strategy has been informed by a consultation process that involved both local residents and the wider Canberra community.

A Draft Master Plan has been developed for the study area, and this has been informed through consultation with the local and broader community; and key stakeholders including the Royal Canberra Golf Club, Australia Heart Foundation, Planning Institute of Australia and Yarralumla Uniting Church.
